AN ACT
RELATING TO EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS; PROVIDING FOR A MEETING OF THE BOARD OF REGENTS OF NEW MEXICO STATE UNIVERSITY TO ELECT OFFICERS.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
Section 1. Section 21-8-4 NMSA 1978 (being Laws 1889, Chapter 138, Sections 21 and 65, as amended) is amended to read:
"21-8-4. OFFICERS OF THE UNIVERSITY.--[The officers of the College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts shall be the same, be elected in the same manner at the same time, perform like duties and possess the same qualifications as is provided for the officers of the university of New Mexico.] The board of regents of New Mexico state university shall meet, organize and elect officers, a president and a secretary and treasurer, at Las Cruces in Dona Ana county during the last week of March. The officers shall hold their offices until their successors are duly elected and qualified. The secretary and treasurer shall, before assuming office, execute a good and sufficient bond to the state of New Mexico, with two or more sufficient sureties who are residents of this state, in the sum of not less than twenty thousand dollars ($20,000), conditioned for the faithful performance of the duties of secretary and treasurer, including accounting for money in that officer's care. The bond shall be approved by the governor and filed with the secretary of state."
