AN ACT

RELATING TO STATE POLICE SALARIES; REQUIRING THE LEGISLATIVE FINANCE COMMITTEE TO ANNUALLY REVIEW STATE POLICE SALARIES; MAKING AN APPROPRIATION.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. STATE POLICE SALARIES--LEGISLATIVE FINANCE COMMITTEE REVIEW.--The legislative finance committee shall annually review state police salaries relative to other law enforcement agencies in the state and shall recommend to the legislature salary increases sufficient to maintain the state police salary ranking within the three highest salary ranges of law enforcement salaries in the state.

     Section 2. APPROPRIATION.--Six million five hundred ninety thousand dollars ($6,590,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the department of public safety for expenditure in fiscal year 2005 for state police salary increases. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2005 shall revert to the general fund.
