AN ACT
MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR ASSESSMENT OF EXISTING BILINGUAL NATIVE AMERICAN PROGRAMS IN THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS TO DETERMINE THE OPTIMAL DIRECTION FOR THOSE PROGRAMS IN THE FUTURE.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--One hundred thousand dollars ($100,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the public education department for expenditure in fiscal year 2005 to permit the bilingual multicultural education unit to contract for the assessment of existing Native American bilingual programs serving thirty-six thousand students to determine the strengths, weaknesses and needs of those programs so that optimal programs can be designed and implemented in the future. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2005 shall revert to the general fund.
