Madam President:


    Your EDUCATION COMMITTEE, to whom has been referred


HOUSE EDUCATION COMMITTEE SUBSTITUTE FOR

HOUSE BILL 304, as amended


has had it under consideration and reports same with recommendation that it DO PASS, amended as follows:

 

1. On page 2, line 12, strike "An" and insert in lieu thereof "A level one".

 

   2. On pages 2 and 3, strike Subsection C in its entirety and insert in lieu thereof:

 

        "C. Beginning July 1, 2004, an applicant for a level two educational assistant license shall:

 

            (1) be at least eighteen years of age;

 

            (2) have a high school diploma or its equivalent;

 

            (3) show satisfactory evidence of having completed a school-district-level orientation; and

 

            (4) have completed at least forty-eight semester hours of post-secondary non-remedial credit awarded by an accredited college or university that includes at least fifteen semester hours in basic skills and assisting in the classroom.".

 

   3. On page 3, line 7, strike "An" and insert in lieu thereof "A level two".

   4. On page 3, strike Subsection E in its entirety and insert in lieu thereof:

 

        "E. Beginning July 1, 2004, an applicant for a level three-A educational assistant license shall:

 

            (1) be at least eighteen years of age;

 

            (2) have a high school diploma or its equivalent;

 

            (3) show satisfactory evidence of having completed a school-district-level orientation; and

 

            (4) have an associate degree from an accredited college or university that includes at least fifteen semester hours in non-remedial degree coursework in basic skills and assisting in the classroom.".

 

   5. On page 4, strike Subsection G in its entirety and insert in lieu thereof:

 

        "G. Beginning July 1, 2004, an applicant for a level three-B educational assistant license shall:

 

            (1) be at least eighteen years of age;

 

            (2) have a high school diploma or its equivalent;

 

            (3) show satisfactory evidence of having completed a school-district-level orientation; and

 

            (4) hold a bachelor's or higher degree from an accredited college or university.".,

 

and thence referred to the FINANCE COMMITTEE.
