AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE OFFICE OF CULTURAL AFFAIRS FOR A PLAN FOR RECOGNITION OF NATIONAL HISTORIC TRAILS AND BYWAYS IN NEW MEXICO.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--

          A. One hundred fifty thousand dollars ($150,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the office of cultural affairs for expenditure in fiscal years 2005 and 2006 to develop and implement a plan for activities to promote recognition, understanding and celebration of national historic trails and byways in New Mexico, including el camino real de tierra adentro, the Santa Fe trail, the old Spanish trail and route 66. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2006 shall revert to the general fund.

          B. In developing the plan provided for in Subsection A of this section, the office of cultural affairs shall coordinate its efforts with the museum of New Mexico's palace of the governors and other appropriate state museums, state and federal agencies, state and local historical societies and associations, local convention and visitors bureaus and chambers of commerce. The office shall report periodically to the legislative finance committee on the development of the plan and proposed activities.
