Mr. Speaker:
Your GOVERNMENT AND URBAN AFFAIRS COMMITTEE, to whom has been referred
HOUSE BILL 39
has had it under consideration and reports same with recommendation that it DO PASS, amended as follows:
1. On page 1, line 19, strike "14" and insert in lieu thereof "15".
2. On page 9, line 5, strike "ADVISORY BOARD" and insert in lieu thereof "COMMISSION".
3. On page 9, line 7, strike "advisory board" and insert in lieu thereof "commission".
4. On page 9, line 8, strike "board" and insert in lieu thereof "commission".
5. On page 9, line 23, strike both occurrences of "board" and insert in lieu thereof "commission".
6. On page 10, lines 3 and 4, strike Subsection F in its entirety and insert in lieu thereof a new section to read:
"Section 14. [NEW MATERIAL] POWERS OF THE COMMISSION.--The commission shall:
A. conduct meetings to provide an opportunity for the presentation and exchange of ideas with respect to Indian affairs by any interested party that result in the promotion of the welfare of the Indian people;
B. receive and disseminate information on issues that significantly impact the welfare of the Indian people;
C. apprise the secretary of the conditions in Native American communities in New Mexico; and
D. advise the secretary on policy matters related to the department's powers and duties.".
7. Renumber the succeeding sections accordingly.,
and thence referred to the APPROPRIATIONS AND FINANCE COMMITTEE.
