A MEMORIAL
REQUESTING CONGRESS TO ENACT A LAW TO PROHIBIT STATES FROM ENACTING LAWS THAT KNOWINGLY PROVIDE STATE LICENSES FOR ILLEGAL ALIENS.
WHEREAS, in the wake of the tragic events of September 11, 2001 and other terrorist events, state legislatures and congress have undertaken concerted efforts to locate and identify potential terrorists; and
WHEREAS, state legislatures and congress have worked diligently to protect citizens' lives and their liberties; and
WHEREAS, some actions by state legislatures have contravened congressional efforts to wage the war on terrorism, such as state legislation to enable the acquisition of licenses and other personal identification documents by illegal aliens;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that congress be requested and encouraged to enact a law to prohibit states from enacting laws that knowingly provide state licenses for illegal aliens; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the New Mexico congressional delegation.
