HONORING GORDON SNIDOW, ARTIST OF THE AMERICAN WEST.
WHEREAS, the great state of New Mexico has a long and rich tradition in the American west; and
WHEREAS, New Mexico is also a major center of nationally acclaimed art and artists; and
WHEREAS, award-winning artist Gordon Snidow of Ruidoso, New Mexico has captured in his art the spirit and realism of the men and women and cowboys and cowgirls who shaped the landscape, history and character of the American west; and
WHEREAS, the Hubbard museum of the American west, founded by R. D. and Joan Dale Hubbard in Ruidoso Downs, New Mexico, hosted an exhibition entitled "My Story... A Gordon Snidow Retrospective" in the summer of 2002; and
WHEREAS, the Smithsonian institution's arts and industries building will host "My Story... A Gordon Snidow Retrospective" featuring approximately seventy of Snidow's original works from February 7, 2003 through May 11, 2003; and
WHEREAS, the exhibition brings honor and prestige to the state of New Mexico by showcasing the state's glorious history and honoring one of its treasured resources, artist Gordon Snidow;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that Gordon and Grace Snidow and the Hubbard museum of the American west be honored and saluted for their contributions to the state of New Mexico.
