EXPRESSING THE COMMENDATION OF THE SENATE TO THE STATE AGENCY ON AGING'S GOLD MENTORS.
WHEREAS, mothers receiving public assistance benefits, young adults and others entering or reentering the work force experience barriers preventing them from securing and retaining employment; and
WHEREAS, retired seniors, age fifty and older, have a lifetime of successful work and family experience; and
WHEREAS, the state agency on aging has designed and implemented a cost-effective, intergenerational mentoring program; and
WHEREAS, older adults, in the state agency on aging's GOLD program, have been mentoring labor department and human services department clients for the past three years;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the state agency on aging's GOLD mentors be commended for their contribution to bettering the lives of those they serve throughout New Mexico; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to other agencies of state government to encourage their consideration of adopting the state agency on aging's intergenerational mentoring program model to support programs within their agencies.
