EXPRESSING THE CONDOLENCE OF THE SENATE UPON THE PASSING OF CLEO C. FERNANDEZ.
WHEREAS, Cleo C. Fernandez, a resident of Santa Fe, died on April 13, 2002; and
WHEREAS, she was born on October 14, 1905 in Ocate, New Mexico; and
WHEREAS, Cleo was preceded in death by her husband, Congressman Antonio M. Fernandez, in 1956 after he suffered a massive cerebral hemorrhage on the day he was reelected to his eighth term in the United States house of representatives; and
WHEREAS, she was an accomplished vocalist and entertained guests at many parties and functions in Washington, D.C., and New Mexico; and
WHEREAS, she continued to lead a full life after her husband's death, singing and painting New Mexico landscapes in oil; and
WHEREAS, Cleo is survived by her five children, Anita Hancock, Delores Seelig, Antonio, Jr., Orlando and Neo; her brother, Louis Chavez; her sister, Delia Martinez; her brother-in-law, Edward Fernandez; twenty grandchildren; twenty-nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that condolences be extended to the family and friends of Cleo C. Fernandez, a loving and devoted New Mexican.
