REQUESTING EACH PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT, SCHOOL AND STUDENT NEWSPAPER AND NEWSLETTER TO PUBLISH THE SEVEN HABITS OF HIGHLY EFFECTIVE FAMILIES.
WHEREAS, there are many everyday stresses and demands that challenge families; and
WHEREAS, family life can be reinforced, strengthened and improved by practicing the seven habits of highly effective families; and
WHEREAS, the first of those habits is for each member of a family to be proactive and realize that he has the freedom to take responsibility for his own life; and
WHEREAS, the second of those habits is to create a family plan or mission statement and identify the family's purpose as a whole; and
WHEREAS, the third of those habits is to prioritize family needs and to do first what matters most; and
WHEREAS, the fourth of those habits is to approach each situation with an "everyone-can-win attitude"; and
WHEREAS, the fifth of those habits is to learn to sincerely listen to people in an effort to understand them and develop deep relationships of trust and love; and
WHEREAS, the sixth of those habits is to creatively work together to solve problems, to value each family member's differences and to discover new opportunities to succeed; and
WHEREAS, the seventh of those habits is to keep on living, loving, laughing and learning together; and
WHEREAS, the seven habits of highly effective families are based upon universal and timeless principles; and
WHEREAS, one of the most effective and efficient ways to communicate to children and families is through school newspapers and newsletters;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that each public school district, school and student newspaper and newsletter be requested to publish the seven habits of highly effective families; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the state board of education, the superintendent of each public school district and the principal of each public school in New Mexico.
