REQUESTING THE GOVERNOR AND THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT TO ASSIST LAND GRANT ORGANIZATIONS WITH ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT.
WHEREAS, the people and leadership of New Mexico have committed the state to a new era of economic development; and
WHEREAS, the original intent of the conveyance of land from the king of Spain to both individual and community grantees and their heirs in territory now known as New Mexico was to stabilize and ensure self-determination, free trade and cultural cohesiveness in perpetuity; and
WHEREAS, the land grants and their rightful owners have had widely varied experiences through the centuries and continue to struggle to maintain their rights of self-determination and to fully avail themselves of all the opportunities to which they are entitled;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the governor and the secretary of economic development be requested to assist and direct all land grant organizations, especially those converted to legislatively authorized corporate structures, every appropriate opportunity for economic development suitable for these unique and precious New Mexico entities; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that these public efforts by the governor and the secretary of economic development include particular emphasis on land development and site locations for new business enterprises in New Mexico; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the governor, to the secretary of economic development and to each land grant organization in New Mexico.
