EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR THE MEN AND WOMEN OF THE UNITED STATES ARMED FORCES IN THE WAR IN IRAQ AND FOR THE PROFESSIONALS OF OUR COUNTRY'S PUBLIC SAFETY AND HEALTH AGENCIES IN THEIR EFFORTS ON THE HOME FRONT.
WHEREAS, hundreds of thousands of men and women in the United States armed forces are currently deployed in the Middle East, risking their lives and personal safety in pursuit of freedom in the name of our country; and
WHEREAS, those men and women include thousands of members of the national guard and the armed forces reserves, who have been called away from home, family, community and jobs to perform their duties; and
WHEREAS, many of the men and women called to arms are from New Mexico, a state with a long and proud history of supporting the armed forces, the defense of this country and the cause of freedom; and
WHEREAS, all New Mexicans pray for our commander-in-chief and that the brave men and women serving our country return home safely; and
WHEREAS, tens of thousands of our public safety and health professionals have dedicated themselves to ensuring our nation's preparedness for and protection from terrorist threats; and
WHEREAS, those public safety and health professionals have made many personal and financial sacrifices in their efforts to protect us;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that deep gratitude be expressed to the men and women of the United States armed forces and to our public safety and health professionals for the strength and courage they have exhibited and for the sacrifices they are making for their country, their state and for us.
