RECOGNIZING APRIL 8, 2003 AS "FIFTY FLAGS TO KITTY HAWK DAY" AND CONGRATULATING JOHN D. "MIKE" RICE OF SANTA FE ON HIS SELECTION TO DELIVER THE NEW MEXICO STATE FLAG TO KITTY HAWK, NORTH CAROLINA.
WHEREAS, the year 2003 marks the one-hundred-year anniversary of a uniquely American invention, the Wright brothers' discovery of powered flight; and
WHEREAS, the experimental aircraft association is celebrating the centennial of flight through its nationwide "countdown to Kitty Hawk" program in partnership with the national park service; and
WHEREAS, as part of that year-long celebration, the experimental aircraft association and the national park service have joined forces to conduct a "fifty flags to Kitty Hawk" initiative in which one experimental aircraft association member from each state will fly his respective state flag to Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, during 2003 to pay tribute to the Wright brothers; and
WHEREAS, each state flag will become part of a permanent joint experimental aircraft association-national park service display on the Wright memorial grounds; and
WHEREAS, John D. "Mike" Rice of Santa Fe has been chosen by the experimental aircraft association to fly the New Mexico state flag to Kitty Hawk, North Carolina;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that it recognize April 8, 2003 as "fifty flags to Kitty Hawk Day"; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that John D. "Mike" Rice be congratulated on his selection as New Mexico's ambassador on this mission; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to John D. "Mike" Rice.
