REQUESTING THE PUBLIC REGULATION COMMISSION TO REQUIRE GENERATION AND TRANSMISSION COOPERATIVES TO MAKE THE GREATEST USE POSSIBLE OF RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES SO THAT NEW MEXICANS CAN AVAIL THEMSELVES OF THE LOWEST POSSIBLE ELECTRIC RATES.
WHEREAS, consumers in New Mexico are well served by sixteen consumer-owned electric utilities; and
WHEREAS, alternative energy sources, including renewable energy sources such as wind, are available to generation and transmission cooperatives and the use of those alternative energy sources would result in lower electric charges to the members of New Mexico electric cooperatives; and
WHEREAS, the use of renewable energy sources by generation and transmission cooperatives would have the additional benefit of creating jobs in New Mexico;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the public regulation commission be requested to require generation and transmission cooperatives to make the greatest use possible of renewable energy sources; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the public regulation commission and the generation and transmission cooperatives doing business in New Mexico.
