REQUESTING THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY CONDUCT A SURVEY AND STUDY OF THE DIFFERENT LAW ENFORCEMENT COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEMS USED IN THE STATE.
WHEREAS, the different law enforcement agencies in the state use different communications equipment and systems; and
WHEREAS, the different communications systems have different capabilities; and
WHEREAS, the rural nature of the state creates gaps in the coverage of the different communications systems in the state;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the department of public safety be requested to conduct a survey of all of the law enforcement agencies in the state to determine what communications systems are used; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the department of public safety be requested to conduct a study of the different communications systems being used to determine which, if any, are the most effective for use in the state; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the department of public safety be requested to report the findings of the study to a legislative interim committee that has jurisdiction over public safety issues not later than October 31, 2003; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the secretary of public safety.
