SUMMARY
Synopsis
of Bill
Senate Joint Memorial
98 requests the Legislative Council to direct an interim legislative committee
to study the inconsistencies in definitions of incumbent local exchange
carrier, incumbent rural telecommunications carrier, and rural telephone
company as shown in state and federal law. The joint memorial furthers requests
the study to consider issues of cost-efficient streamlined regulation that
ensures consumer quality of service and economic development investments.
The interim committee
is required to present its findings to the first session of forty-seventh legislature
(2005).
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
SJM 98 does not
contain an appropriation. Its enactment would not have any additional fiscal
impact on the Legislative Council because funding has been appropriated to fund
interim legislative committees.
