SUMMARY
Synopsis
of Bill
SJM 29 requests that the Secretary of Highway
and Transportation Department designate State Highway 264 as “Code Talker
Memorial highway”
Significant
Issues
State Highway 264 was memorialized by the State
Highway Commission as the “Code Talkers Highway” in May 1998. The Navajo Nation initially made this request
in February 1998 along with a pledge to design, install and maintain the
signage.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
If the State Highway
Department were to be required to sign State Highway 264 as the Code Talker
Memorial Highway the cost would be minimal, possibly $10.0 or less. The Department would need to place signs at
the beginning and end of the Highway in both directions. The signs would cost $1.0-$2.0 per sign.
