SUMMARY
Synopsis
of Bill
Senate Bill 895
creates a Medicaid taskforce. The
members of the taskforce shall be appointed as follows:
Vacancies shall be
filled in the same manner as the appointment.
The Speaker of the
House and the President Pro Tempore of the Senate shall each designate one
co-chair.
Except for the members
of the governor’s staff and legislators, the members of the task force may be
paid pursuant to the Per Diem and Mileage Act and shall receive no other
perquisite, compensation or allowance.
The task force shall
hold one organizational meeting to develop a work plan.
The task force shall:
1.
Examine statutes, constitutional
provisions, rules and court decisions regarding Medicare and Medicaid;
2.
Examine initiatives from other states
that improve the quality of health care;
3.
Examine incentives for access to quality
health care that is affordable to business, the health care providers, the
advocates, individuals and the state’s budget; and
4.
Investigate any changes or instances of
abuse or fraud.
Staff for the task
force shall be provided by the legislative council service.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
Funding is not
provided. The expenditures for the
previous Medicaid Reform Committee totaled approximately $100,000.
