SUMMARY
Synopsis
of SRC Amendment
The Senate Rules Committee amends Senate Bill
540 to strike the words “EARLY VOTING BALLOT OR” on page 23, lines 15 and 16.
Synopsis
of Original Bill
Senate Bill 540 amends
the Municipal Election Code to consolidate early voting into absentee
voting. This was done in the State
Election Code in 1997. Additionally, the
bill provides a definition of absentee voting in Section 13 (A) that
incorporates the idea of early voting.
The bill defines procedures for absentee voting when an electronic
voting system is used. Finally, the bill
restores previously repealed language for voters who do not receive their absentee
ballot in a timely manner.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
There is no appropriation
or significant fiscal implication associated with this bill.
TECHNICAL ISSUES
The Secretary of State
notes on page 23, line 15, the words “EARLY VOTING BALLOT” should be deleted.
