SUMMARY
Synopsis
of Bill
SB500 requires that the Director of the
Probation and Parole Division of the Corrections Department to be appointed by
the Secretary of Corrections with the consent of the Senate.
Significant
Issues.
The New Mexico Corrections Department reports
that SB500 would create an anomaly for a division director within a department
to be subject to Senate confirmation.
The Corrections
Department is further concerned that this could also possibly be an inappropriate
infringement upon the prerogative of the Executive Branch, as well as the
secretary of Corrections.
