SUMMARY

Synopsis of Bill

HJM 60 requests that the US Department of Transportation assign US Route 666 a new numeric designation, and that copies of the memorial be transmitted to the US Secretary of Transportation, the President of the Navajo Nation, the Speaker of the Navajo Nation Council, the Secretary and District Six Engineer of Highway and Transportation Department.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS

Route renumbering will require signs to be changed on US Route 666. The Highway and Transportation Department estimates the cost of the signs could be as much as $500.0.

DUPLICATION AND RELATIONSHIP

HJM 60 and SJM 49 are duplicates.

HJM relates to HJM 61, which renames US Route 666 Senator John Pinto Highway. The Highway and Transportation Department says that a highway can have both a number designation and a name.

OTHER SUBSTANTIVE ISSUES

Route re-numbering requires an application from the State Highway and Transportation Department to the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials.(AASHTO).
