Synopsis
of Bill
House Bill 478
appropriates $600.0 from the general fund to the SDE for career and technical
education programs for public school students statewide to provide technical
skills, knowledge and training necessary for students to succeed in specific
occupations and careers.

and Technical Education (CTE) Programs Career and Technical Education is an
essential
component
to the total education system and plays an important role in economic
development
and
all share a fundamental commitment to:
quality classroom instruction;
meaningful work-based learning opportunities;
and
Career and Technical Student
Organizations (CTSOs).
A workforce that is
trained or can be trained can be an inducement for companies to relocate to
states with this capacity. According to

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The appropriation of
$600.0 contained in this bill is a recurring expense to the general fund. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance
remaining at the end of fiscal year shall revert to the general fund.
ADMINISTRATIVE IMPLICATIONS
This program will be
administered by existing SDE staff.
