Synopsis of Bill

Senate Bill 147 eliminates the straight party vote option on election ballots.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS

There is no appropriation associated with this bill, however, the Secretary of State indicates that, because five to 10 percent of voters may use the straight party option, additional voting systems will be necessary if delays are to be avoided during voting. The Secretary of State estimates the cost of additional machines to be between $733.5 and $1,467.0.

ADMINISTRATIVE IMPLICATIONS

The Secretary of State is concerned that staff will experience more complaints regarding lines at polling places.
