SUMMARY
Synopsis
of Bill
Senate Bill 70 amends
the current law to require that the owners of a dog or cat cannot have the
animal vaccinated more frequently than every three years or as prescribed by
regulation of the Department of Health. Current law only requires vaccinations
as prescribed by regulation.
Significant
Issues
Many veterinarians are now recommending that cats and dogs be vaccinated every three years rather than yearly as has been the practice in the past.
TECHNICAL ISSUES
SB 70 makes it illegal to vaccinate an animal more often than every three years. It might be more beneficial to the animals if SB 70 required that animals be vaccinated “at least every three years.”
