SUMMARY

     Synopsis of Bill

SJM 60 requests the Capitol Buildings Planning Commission to evaluate the existing parking opportunities of the State Capitol area and, recommend viable options to increase the availability of parking for all citizens of our state.  The report is due December 31, 2003.

     Significant Issues

Parking is inadequate for citizens in the vicinity of the State Capitol.  This is especially critical for those planning on participating in the process of government, or simply visiting our city, especially during the Legislative Session.  Availability of parking can affect revenues generated by tourism, the continued operational flow of government, and prospective new businesses.  Parking in the Capitol area is a concern of the Capitol Buildings Planning Commission.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS

Additional parking in the Capitol area could have a positive fiscal impact for in tourism and prospective new businesses considering relocation to our city.  Adequate parking will improve efficiency for agencies and citizens having business at the Capitol.
