SUMMARY

     Synopsis of Bill

House Joint Memorial requests that the State Board of Education (SBE) develop procedures to allow schools to meet paperwork requirements of the state’s accountability system without adversely affecting an educator’s “Time To Teach”.

     Significant Issues

A demand for accountability by state and local policy-makers has created the need for a great deal of information that must be gathered at the classroom level.  This condition has been compounded by the reporting requirements of the federal No Child Left Behind Act of 2001.  this memorial requests that ways be devised that minimize the demand on teachers who are often at the root of the data gathering process.

ADMINISTRATIVE IMPLICATIONS

The request of this HJM are to be carried out by the “SBE and its staff at SDE.
