SUMMARY
Synopsis
of Bill
Senate Bill 689
provides two additional members to the Capitol Buildings Planning Commission.
Significant
Issues
Senate Bill 689 adds two members, the secretary
of NMSHTD and the director of the Museum of New Mexico or their designees.
The Capitol Buildings
Planning Commission (CBPC) was created by the 1997 Legislature to study and
plan for the long-range facility needs of state government in Santa Fe, New
Mexico. The statutory responsibility of
the commission is to review prior long-range facility needs assessments and
develop an initial master plan for state facilities. The Master Plan for state facilities was completed in 2000.
The commission is currently composed of nine
members consisting of four members of the legislature, the secretary of the
General Services Department (GSD), the PCD staff architect, the secretary of
the Department of Finance and Administration, the Commissioner of Public Lands
and the chairman of the Supreme Court Building Commission or their respective
designees. The Speaker of the House and
secretary of GSD co-chair the commission.
OTHER SUBSTANTIVE ISSUES
NMSHTD is one of the
largest state government agencies in terms of employees and buildings occupied
in Santa Fe. Membership on the CBPC as
provided in Senate Bill 689 would allow the department to participate and
address the planning and space needs of the department and state government as
a whole.
