OTHER SUBSTANTIVE ISSUES
The Arts Division of
the Office of Cultural Affairs currently allocates funds for touring and outreach
to arts services organizations in the established grants cycle.
The State Department of Education states this
legislation supports its strategic Goal: “Constructive Engagement with Our
Partners and the New Mexico Social Studies and Arts Education Content
Standards, Benchmarks and Performance Standards” and provides access for
students, teachers, parents and community members to performing arts events
given by major performing arts institutions.
Additionally, SDE notes this legislation addresses the National
Standards for Arts Education: “The arts play a valued role in creating cultures
and in building civilizations. The arts
make unique contributions to culture, society and the lives of
individuals. Awakening to the arts, and
to their influence on other fields, deepens respect for one’s own and for
other’s communities.” [1]
