RELATING TO PUBLIC ASSISTANCE; REQUIRING THAT CERTAIN STATE FUNDS FOR HEAD START PROGRAMS BE USED FOR COLLABORATION WITH PRIVATE AND NONPROFIT PROVIDERS.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
Section 1. TEMPORARY ASSISTANCE FOR NEEDY FAMILIES--USE OF STATE HEAD START PROGRAM FUNDS.--In the 2004 fiscal year and each subsequent fiscal year, at least twenty-five percent of the state's maintenance-of-effort funds appropriated for head start programs for children eligible pursuant to the federal temporary assistance for needy families program shall be used to contract or collaborate with private and nonprofit child care providers to provide head start and related child care services.
