Your EDUCATION COMMITTEE, to whom has been referred

has had it under consideration and reports same with recommendation that it DO PASS, amended as follows:

1. On page 2, line 3, after "units" insert "aligned to the state academic content and performance standards".

2. On page 2, line 7, before the semicolon insert ", at least one of which is equivalent to the algebra 1 level or higher".

3. On page 2, line 9, after the semicolon insert "provided, however, that with students entering the ninth grade beginning in the 2005-2006 school year, three units in science shall be required, one of which shall have a laboratory component;".

4. On page 2, line 13, after "education" insert "or other physical activity".

5. On page 2, line 14, after "skills" insert "or business education".

6. On page 2, line 15, before "major" insert "a".

7. On page 2, line 15, strike ", which" and insert in lieu thereof "and that".

8. On page 2, line 17, after "units" strike the remainder of the line, strike all of lines 18 through 25, strike lines 1 through 3 on page 3 and insert in lieu thereof "and eight elective units for students entering the ninth grade in the 2005-2006 school year that meet state board content and performance standards. Student service learning shall be offered as an elective.".
