MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE TOURISM DEPARTMENT FOR DEVELOPMENT OF A PLAN FOR RECOGNITION OF NATIONAL HISTORIC TRAILS AND BYWAYS IN NEW MEXICO.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--
A. One hundred fifty thousand dollars ($150,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the tourism department for expenditure in fiscal years 2004 and 2005 for development and implementation of a plan for activities to promote recognition, understanding and celebration of national historic trails and byways in New Mexico, including el camino real de tierra adentro, the Santa Fe trail, the old Spanish trail and route 66. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2005 shall revert to the general fund.
B. In developing the plan provided for in Subsection A of this section, the tourism department shall coordinate its efforts with the museum of New Mexico's palace of the governors and other appropriate state museums, state and federal agencies, state and local historical societies and associations, local convention and visitors bureaus and chambers of commerce. The department shall report periodically to the legislative finance committee on the development of the plan and proposed activities.
