A JOINT MEMORIAL

REQUESTING THE OFFICE OF CULTURAL AFFAIRS AND THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT TO SUPPORT THE AMATEUR ATHLETIC WORLD HALL OF FAME MUSEUM, INCORPORATED, AND THE AMATEUR INTERNATIONAL SPORTS EDUCATIONAL FEDERATION, INCORPORATED.

 

WHEREAS, the amateur athletic world hall of fame museum, incorporated, was created to induct, recognize, reward, educate and enhance the future of young people through sports and career programs; and

WHEREAS, the museum is the first and only existing hall of fame museum that will induct world amateur athletic champions in all sports, from amateur international organizations and will recognize the youths who represent their countries and win national events throughout the world; and

WHEREAS, the federation and the museum will establish, next to the olympics, the world's largest amateur sports event through an annual world sports event in a different country each year; and

WHEREAS, in 2002, the forty-fifth legislature of the state of New Mexico, unanimously supported a memorial for the museum and the federation; and


WHEREAS, the agenda for the first annual 2004 amateur athletic world hall of fame awards banquet is supported by a donation of the Albuquerque convention center and by Albuquerque mayor Martin Chavez; and

WHEREAS, Albuquerque mayor Martin Chavez has stated that sports programs are extremely important to developing essential values integral to achieving success and has commended the museum and the federation for their efforts; and

WHEREAS, Bill Richardson, former congressman, secretary of energy and United Nations ambassador and current governor of New Mexico, has stated that encouraging and promoting sports activities, educational programs and goals for which to strive are key elements for a positive lifestyle;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the office of cultural affairs and the economic development department be requested to support the amateur athletic world hall of fame museum, incorporated, and the amateur international sports educational federation, incorporated, in their efforts to recognize amateur athletes and induct honorees; promote self-discipline, self-confidence, honor and integrity; and foster exemplary lifestyles; and


BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the secretary of economic development, the director of the office of cultural affairs, the amateur athletic world hall of fame museum, incorporated, and the amateur international sports educational federation, incorporated.
