AN ACT
PROVIDING FOR A STATEWIDE STUDY TO
EVALUATE THE EFFECT OF GAMBLING ON THE GENERAL POPULATION OF NEW MEXICO, TO
DETERMINE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF TRIBAL FUNDING FOR PREVENTION OF ADDICTIVE
GAMBLING AND TO CONDUCT A PUBLIC AWARENESS CAMPAIGN.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF
THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
Section 1. STATEWIDE STUDY ON GAMING.--The center on
alcoholism, substance abuse and addictions at the university of New Mexico
shall conduct a statewide study to evaluate the effect of gambling on the
general population of New Mexico, determine the effectiveness of tribal and
gaming control board efforts to address gambling addiction and its prevention,
as required by state-tribal gaming compacts, and develop a public service
campaign to increase awareness of the effects of gambling. The requirement of this section is contingent
upon the university of New Mexico receiving sufficient funds to conduct the
study from the New Mexico lottery authority and the gaming industry.
