A JOINT MEMORIAL

EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES UPON THE PASSING OF NEAL GONZALEZ FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF SERVICE TO STATE GOVERNMENT AND THE CITIZENS OF NEW MEXICO.

WHEREAS, Neal Gonzalez passed away on October 23, 2002; and

WHEREAS, he became a resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico, in 1968 and made it his home; and

WHEREAS, he was a veteran of World War II and a founding member and president of the Carlsbad boys' club; and

WHEREAS, he had an extensive career promoting labor organizations and protecting the rights of unionized workers; and

WHEREAS, he served under the administration of seven governors, where he received appointments to many boards and commissions, including the state electrical board, the state economic development board, the jobs and training commission, the vocational education board, the state personnel board, the workers' compensation task force, the New Mexico human resources development institute board, the state real estate commission, the governor's advisory commission on higher education and the judicial salary committee; and

WHEREAS, he was an active Democrat, participating in every national, statewide and legislative campaign and serving on the state central committee and the chairman's council; and

WHEREAS, he was a devoted family man and touched the hearts of many people; and

WHEREAS, he was preceded in death by his loving wife Lois and is survived by his son David Neal Gonzalez, his daughters, Linda, Diane and Joann, his six grandchildren, Brad, Kelly, Tyan, Jesse, Sean and Valerie, his two great-grandchildren, Ayla and Zeff, his brothers, Jim, Angelo and Paul, his sister Josephine and many other loving family members; and

WHEREAS, Neal will be dearly missed by his family, colleagues and friends;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that condolences be extended to the family and friends of Neal Gonzalez, a devoted New Mexican who dedicated many years of service to state government and his fellow citizens; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the family of Neal Gonzalez.
