A MEMORIAL

REQUESTING THE SECRETARY OF HIGHWAY AND TRANSPORTATION TO CONDUCT AN ENGINEERING SURVEY AND TRAFFIC INVESTIGATION FOR THE PURPOSE OF RAISING THE SPEED LIMIT ON HIGHWAY 550.



WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 66-7-303 NMSA 1978, the secretary of highway and transportation may raise speed limits on state highways up to seventy-five miles per hour after conducting an engineering survey and traffic investigation; and

WHEREAS, highway 550, between Bernalillo and northwest New Mexico, has been recently widened and upgraded and is now one of the premier highways in the state; and

WHEREAS, the new improved highway can now safely accommodate vehicles traveling at higher speeds;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the secretary of highway and transportation be requested to initiate the process for declaring a speed limit of seventy-five miles per hour on highway 550 by conducting an engineering survey and traffic investigation; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the results of the survey and investigation be submitted to the New Mexico senate; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the secretary of highway and transportation.
