SUMMARY

Synopsis of Bill

Senate Memorial 26 urges the United States government to recognize the positive accomplishments of the New Mexico Works Program. The memorial sites some accomplishments:

• Although New Mexico ranks as one of the lowest per capita income states, welfare recipients are able to increase their family income by combining cash assistance and earned income
• New Mexico administers the program on its own
• Surveys reveal families in the New Mexico program earn more after leaving the program than the national average
• After successful completion of the program only sixteen percent were reenrolled one year later

Senate Memorial 26 does not contain an appropriation.
