SUMMARY

     Synopsis of Bill

Senate Joint Memorial 79 requests that DPS honor the memories of State Police officers Damon Talbott and Ramon Robert Solis by naming the District III State Police Headquarters in Roswell after them.

     Significant Issues

State Police officers Ramon Robert Solis and Damon Talbott were killed in the line of duty on October 19, 2001 in a helicopter crash following a training exercise.  Officer Talbott, at 21 years of age, became the youngest New Mexico State Police officer killed in the line of duty.  Officers Solis and Talbott were classmates in the 64th New Mexico State Police recruit school and were based in their hometown of Roswell.  SJM 79 indicates that DPS should honor the memories of officers Solis and Talbot by naming the State Police headquarters building in their hometown of Roswell after them in recognition of their service to the residents of New Mexico.  SJM 79 requires that a copy of the memorial be transmitted to the DPS secretary.
