State Department of Education (SDE)
SUMMARY
Synopsis
of Bill
Senate Bill 388 would permit the State Department of Education to waive a variety of current statutes for those public schools that are found to test above educational standards.
Significant
Issues
The waive would permit SDE to waive the
following:
·
Accreditation review requirements
·
Length of school day
·
Individual class load requirements
·
Subject area requirements
·
Graduation requirements
·
Evaluation standards for school personnel
·
Purchase of instructional materials from the
State Board of Education approved multiple list requirements, and
·
Any
other requirements of Public School Code that impede innovation in
education.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
Senate Bill 388
carries no appropriation.
ADMINISTRATIVE IMPLICATIONS
The SDE indicates that the time commitment for
the State Board of Education, and district staffs to implement, track and
evaluate this process would be great.
