Taxation and Revenue Department (TRD)
SUMMARY
Synopsis
of Bill
Senate Bill 335
directs the Motor Vehicle Division of the Taxation and Revenue Department to issue
a special registration plate to any person who has graduated from the United
States Military Academy.
Significant
Issues
The bill provides that a person who falsely
represents themselves as a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy is guilty of a
petty misdemeanor. The bill also
provides that the department shall charge an additional ten dollars ($10.00)
for the special plates, four dollars ($4.00) of which shall be retained by the
department to defray the cost of making and issuing the plates. The remaining amount of the fees collected
shall be deposited in the Motor Vehicle Suspense Fund.
The department indicates that they anticipate no
more than 200 individuals to qualify for the plates immediately and
approximately ten new plates to be issued annually. Therefore, there will be minimal impact to the department.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
Senate Bill 335
relates to House Memorial 13 and Senate Memorial 11, both of which recognize
the contributions of the United States Military Academy at West Point, New
York.
