SUMMARY
Synopsis
of Bill
Senate Bill 111
expands the role of the Capitol Buildings Planning Commission to include Albuquerque.
Significant Issues
According to the General Services Department
(GSD), Albuquerque is second to Santa Fe in the amount of office space (leased
and owned) used for state government operations. Long-range planning in Albuquerque could have the same cost
savings impact demonstrated in Santa Fe.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
GSD staff comments
comprehensive planning could save on costs to lease office space and costs to
acquire or building new office space in Albuquerque.
OTHER SUBSTANTIVE ISSUES
GSD staff notes the
Capitol Buildings Planning Commission was established in 1997 and includes
representation from the legislative, judicial and executive government
branches. The commission contracted for
studies of current space conditions and future needs for the Santa Fe
area. A comprehensive master plan has
been developed and adopted. Priorities
for short-term acquisitions and long-range campus development give substance to
cost-effective management for government office needs.
