SUMMARY
Synopsis
of Bill
House Joint Resolution
19 proposes to amend Article 7 of the Constitution of new Mexico to allow
runoff elections for municipalities that have a population over fifty thousand,
that are located in a Class A county and for other municipalities as provided
by law.
Significant
Issues
The joint resolution provides that a
municipality having a population over fifty thousand as determined by the 2000
federal decennial census may have runoff elections if it is located in a Class
A county and has adopted a charter may amend that charter to provide for runoff
elections.
