Synopsis
of Original Bill
House Joint Resolution
8 proposes an amendment to the Constitution of New Mexico to require that the
state minimum wage be at least equal to the minimum wage established by federal
law.
Significant
Issues
Currently, the state minimum wage is $4.25 per hour. The federal minimum wage was increased in 1997 to $5.15 per hour. The joint memorial would increase the state minimum wage to the level of the federal minimum wage and any increases of the federal standard would also constitute increases to the state minimum wage.
