State Highway and Transportation Department
(SHTD)
SUMMARY
Synopsis
of Bill
House Joint Memorial 12 requests the State
Highway and Transportation Department (SHTD) cooperate with the federal Bureau
of Land Management and the National Park Service in the development and
certification of properties for the creation of El Camino Real de Tierra
Adentro National Historic Trail.
Significant
Issues
According to SHTD, certification and development
of trail assets is strictly voluntary and initiated by the landowner. Additionally, this historic trail has already
been created.
This trail only crosses highway right-of-way at
a point in southern Dona Ana County.
The department currently cooperates with the Bureau of Land Management
and the National Park Service in many areas where the agencies have interests, including
the Scenic Byways program.
