SUMMARY
House Bill 343 makes amendments to certain
sections of the state statutes to establish a rate of reimbursement to counties
for expenses incurred while extraditing and transporting state prisoners. Counties shall be reimbursed by the state
for not more than 50% of per diem, mileage and other necessary travel
expenses. Counties with populations of
one $100,000 or more, as determined by the 2000 United States census, shall not
cumulatively receive more than 50% of the total amount of money allocated to
all counties in each fiscal year as reimbursement. All claims for reimbursement shall be submitted to the Local
Government Division of the Department of Finance and Administration.
Synopsis

House Bill 343
appropriates $1,000.0 from the general fund to Local government Division of the
Department of Finance and Administration for the purpose of reimbursing
counties for the cost of extraditing, transporting and feeding state prisoners.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The appropriation of
$1,000.0 contained in this bill is a recurring expense to the general fund. Any
unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2003
shall revert to the general fund.
