SUMMARY
Synopsis
of Bill
House Bill 244 appropriates $50.0 from the
general fund to the University of New Mexico (UNM) to establish a pilot program
that provides financial assistance for child care expenses to students seeking
graduate or professional degrees.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The appropriation of $50.0 contained in this
bill is a recurring expense to the general fund. Any unexpended or unencumbered
balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2003 shall revert to the general
fund.
CONFLICT/DUPLICATION/COMPANIONSHIP/RELATIONSHIP
Included in CS/HB2, Section 5 is an
appropriation in the amount of $25.0 for this purpose.
OTHER SUBSTANTIVE ISSUES
This program was not included in UNM’s budget
request to the UNM Board of Regents, and thus was submitted by UNM to the CHE
for review. The CHE did not recommend
funding this program expansion.
