SUMMARY
House Bill 136 amends the Construction Industries Licensing Act by specifying the criteria individuals must have to be eligible to take an examination for a certificate of competence as a journeyman electrical and wireman. An individual is eligible to take an examination for an electrical certificate of compliance if they have four years of accredited training in the electrical trade, four years apprenticeship in the electrical trade or four years of practical experience in the electrical trade of which two years were in the commercial trade, industrial trade or the equivalent thereof.
An individual is eligible to take an examination
for a residential wireman’s certificate of competence if they have a minimum of
two years accredited training or apprenticeship in the electrical trade or two
years of practical experience in wiring residential dwellings.
OTHER SUBSTANTIVE ISSUES
The
criteria to be eligible for the equivalent exams for journeyman plumbers, gas
fitters, pipe fitters, sheet metal workers, boiler operators and welders
working on pipe lines, collection lines or compressor stations remain
unchanged.
Why is there a need to make the criteria
individuals must have to be eligible to take an examination for a certificate
of competence as a journeyman electrical and/or wireman more rigorous?
