MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE BOARD OF REGENTS OF WESTERN NEW MEXICO UNIVERSITY TO FUND THE ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT'S GENDER- EQUITY NEEDS AND NATIONAL COLLEGIATE ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION CONFERENCE MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS; DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--One hundred fifty thousand dollars ($150,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the board of regents of western New Mexico university for expenditure in fiscal years 2002 and 2003 to fund the athletic department's gender-equity needs and national collegiate athletic association conference membership requirements. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2003 shall revert to the general fund.

Section 2. EMERGENCY.--It is necessary for the public peace, health and safety that this act take effect immediately.
