AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO PROVIDE VARIOUS SERVICES FOR NEW MEXICO'S MENTALLY ILL POPULATION; DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Seven hundred thousand dollars ($700,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the department of health for expenditure in fiscal years 2002 and 2003 for the purpose of funding various services for the state's mentally ill population, including prescription drugs, housing, jail diversion, emergency aid and other services. The department may contract with other state and local agencies to provide such needed services. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2003 shall revert to the general fund.

Section 2. EMERGENCY.--It is necessary for the public peace, health and safety that this act take effect immediately.
