SENATE FLOOR AMENDMENT number __1____ to SENATE BILL 388

Amendment sponsored by Senator

1. On page 1, lines 12 and 13, strike "FOR SCHOOLS THAT ARE FOUND TO TEST ABOVE EDUCATIONAL STANDARDS".

2. On page 1, line 22, strike "are found to test above" and insert in lieu thereof "exceed".

3. On page 2, line 15, strike "is found to test above" and insert in lieu thereof "exceeds".

4. On page 2, line 23, strike "be for" and insert in lieu thereof "begin".

5. On page 2, line 24, strike "test above" and insert in lieu thereof "exceed".

6. On page 2, line 25, following the period insert "The waiver shall remain in effect as long as the school continues to exceed educational standards as determined by the state board.".

7. On page 2, line 25, strike the end quotation mark and after line 25, insert the following new subsection:

"D. Upon receiving a waiver request from a school that meets or is below educational standards as determined by the state board and in addition to a recommendation from the department of education, the state board may waive requirements of the Public School Code if the waiver request is supported by the teachers at the requesting school and the requesting school's local school board and the waiver is necessary to improve the school's performance."".
